On Friday the 12th at 8:15am, my beloved 2001 Golf TDI turned over 400,000 miles. This isn't my first car to cross this threshold. My old '87 gasser Golf went 654,000 miles before being transferred to a new owner.
So, naturally, we had to have an all-day party on Saturday to celebrate this momentous occasion. All my cars friends showed up and a good time was had by all.
The Manns from across town showed up with a trio of brightly colored gifts to keep her running clean and strong.
Crazy, but lovable, Uncle Shell showed up with a gallon of his super-secret Rotella T6 nectar to "lubricate" the proceedings.
Mr. Meyle from down the street arrived with some new booties (OK - one boot) to replaced a torn item.
The highlight of our little shindig was the Garretts, who generously supplied a shiny new VNT15 turbo. The old one was working, but well past her prime. The manifold was decked out in freshly baked VHT paint, giving it a golden color that will (hopefully) look good for a long time to come.
After 10 hours of fun and merriment it was time to end our party. A little Diesel "champagne" was sipped by the birthday girl to top off the evening and ensure her continued long life.
There was cake and ice cream too, but since a diesel engine won't run on cake and ice cream - I ate it all myself! Chocolate, mmmmm...
Next up - 500K!
