So today it is raining in Los Angeles, I am on my 70 mile commute to work, dealing with the plethoria of jackknifed big rigs and assorted other car crash mayhem that accompanies rain here. It is pre-dawn, and I of course am running both front and rear wipers on my JSW, and I am taking note of how dramatically the rear wiper improves my visibility. So out of sheer boredom on what will become a 2+ hour drive, I start taking notice of all the vehicles around me that have rear-mounted wipers....virtually every SUV, wagon, and minivan ever made has them, along with quite a few other vehicle models from subaru, kia, mini, all prius, scion, etc. heck even fiat 500 has one. But here is the thing, in the entirety of my drive in the rain, NOT ONE, let me repeat that, NOT ONE has their rear wiper on! I am talking hundreds, if not thousands of rear-wiper equipped vehicles. Is it because their drivers don't know they have them? Is it because they don't know how to turn them on? Or more likely, is it because they so rarely look in their rear-view mirrors that it is a moot point? I think it is likely the last....Oh, and while I am at it, this is during the early morning, pre-dawn, and yet about 10% of the cars don't even have their headlights on!
