Any issues with running 205/65/16 vs. 205/55/16?

A buddy has a nearly new set of bridgestone blizzak winter tires for sale. They are 205/65/16 instead of the stock 205/55/16 tires. Would there be any differences/issues with running this new size? I can pick them up for a fraction of the cost of new ones. Thanks,

Also, not that it's the same, but I ride a Honda Valkyrie and guys run anything from a 205/55 to 205/65 16 with no problems.

You'd change the overall height of the tire by more than 1.5". When speedometer reads 60mph (96.6km/h) actual speed will be 63.8mph (102.7km/h): 6.3% faster. And your odometer would be off.

you might run into rubbing issue if the rear is loaded down with gear, but a couple members here run 205-60-16's with no issue. Next set of rubbers i'll be looking at either 205-60-16s as they are cheaper than the 55's and i enjoy the bigger side wall.

The real difference is only half of the height since you have 1.5" /2 on top a nd on bottom. You would really be loading heavy to get a rub

Haha, what? You think the bottom half just sinks into the ground or something?

There are bump stop spacers available from the parts counter for the rubbing issue and the speedo can be recalibrated with vag-com, though even on the max setting you'll be slightly off (less than 2% though). I'm running 255/40R18's on my car which are almost as tall.

Thanks for all the the great feedback. I may roll the dice and go ahead and purchase the tires. They'd only be on the car during the winter months.

Really? You don't see what's happening here? 1.5in bigger tire will be .750" closer to the car, as the car will be raised .075" from the ground. The DIAMETER changes 1.5", so the RADIUS will increase by .075" and therefore the tire is only .075" closer to the car.

It is worth noting that you can use the snow tire setting on the MFI to compensate for the larger tire.

I think you missed an order of magnitude there.

Re-read. I'm guessing you guys are talking about tire gap / ride height, initial point was about tire height.

Also, 1.5 / 2 = .75, not .075 :)

My post was not addressing the wheelwell clearance- only speedo and odo error.
