Join the TDIclub's monthly MPG competition! Last month's results are here. It's easy to participate! All you have to do is:

1 - drive at least 1000 miles during the month and have some way of reporting your MPGs with reasonable accuracy.
2 - remember to absolutely never compromise safety in pursuit of MPG Competition glory.

I will post standings updates every Monday. You do not have to fill up every week [unless you want to have new data included in every standings update] you just need to have filled up at least once and driven at least 1000 miles during the month. If you have a reasonably accurate MFA, you do not even need to have one fill up! Just send in a post with the MFA computed MPGs. (incredibly, Rammstein and possibly others can drive for an entire month, more than 1200 miles, and still not need to fill up )

Below is an example of how monthly MPGs should be calculated, using AudiLikeA4's Oct04 numbers. Please post/report your data using this format:

[Driver]AudiLikeA4 [Car]04 Golf 5m [Fuel]D2
10/5 721.0m/16.1g=44.8mpg
10/10 742.4m/16.1g=46.1mpg
Oct.Total 1463.4m/32.2g=45.4mpg
The last line of your MPG report is critical. Please remember to total your miles / gallons and MPGs.

At the end of every month we'll crown numerous champions.
Overall (of course this is the most coveted title), A3/B4, A4, A4PD, B5, even Touareg (and titles for any other models I've missed).

Two MPG award categories that absolutely everyone has a shot at are PR [Personal Record] awards: a "Road Trip PR" and a "Standard Driving PR".

Road Trips are often nearly all highway miles and MPG numbers (for some) are much better than their Standard Driving. Standard Driving is just your normal commuting and recreational driving. If you set your own Personal MPG Record [Road Trip and/or Standard Driving] please post and I'll record the PR you achieved in the standings.

Good luck! - Rob

yes - automatics get 5% added to their MPG data to offset slushbox efficiency losses

OK - that's probably not going to happen - but you could be finish on the auto podium

Just had to top off the tank as I was outside the Greater Vancouver area where fuel is cheaper due to less tax. 2.39 vs 2.78 equivalent per gallon.
I blame it on my Scottish ancestry.

I will give this a try, see how well my Golf does.

643.7 miles/ 13.176 gallons = 48.85 mpg.

'04 Golf 4dr GL, 5spd.
38f/36r tires, use 8oz. Power Service silver each tank.
65-70 mph, speed limit is 65 so that is +5 on speed.
95% of my driving is highway miles on flat ground. Goodluck Veedubing.

I made it into the 800 mile club today. I filled up on 10/29 at 188403 miles and ran out of fuel at 189216. I only put in 2.176 gals due to it being $0.10 cheaper near where I live. I then filled the tank with another 13.93 gals for a total of 53.893 mpg. I think this is my best so far. I also cleaned my snow screen for the first time at 189177 so I will see if my mpg continue to go up. I have 40 psi in the tires and have slowed down to 65 mph.

My first time posting on the MPG monthly competition. I'm still breaking her in, but getting decent mileage already. I had 2613 miles on it when I filled it up last (11/6). I had a little over a quarter of a tank when I filled it, but decided to fill it up so it would be ready for her next work week. I think I could of easily made the 600 mile club, but that will have to be for another time.

I used 8 oz of Diesel Kleen.
I pumped in 11.37 Gallons.
My mileage was 476/11.37 = 41.86 mpg.

I think this is pretty good numbers for such a low mileage car. I look forward to becoming a competitor in this monthly competition.

Oh yea, by the way, it's an automatic.

Sure, I posted to this forum day before yesterday a piece "Additives, Comments and Observations" in which I outline what seems to work best in my current cocktail.

I got 43MPG for October on the same Mohawk fuel that GDR uses. The Golf is running great, tires at 40, and shifts at 2000. Intake is in good shape, CCV installed. I'm using 10L of biodiesl in each tank, so additives right now.

I'm a bit annoyed that the weather turned significantly colder just as I had the 1,400 mile per tank benchmark in my sights.
I was at 1147 miles with just under 6(!) gallons indicated remaining. All I had to do was keep at least a 50 mpg average for the last few and the all time, single tank distance record could have been mine!
and all on B100!!!!

Instead I had to dump in some petrodiesel to cut the remaining B100 enough to get through these next few days.

It's because your car ain't black Jonathan...that's why you can't break the 1400 miles barrier...

1400 miles is so hard to get...been there once...

Just broke the 1000 mile per tank for the first time on my B4 sedan today!

1016 miles on 18.98 gallons comes to 53.53 miles per gallon! What I'm really proud of is that 2/3rds of this tank was city/commute driving.

I thought I would like to post my figures for the last month and a half or so.

Vehicle / 2003 Jetta GL Wagon 5-speed
Miles 51, 600

No modifications 100 % stock.

Tires. Falken Ziex 512/ 195 X 65 X 15 (91-H)rated inflated
to max sidewall tire pressure 51 psi.

Miles traveled. Filled from begining to end of this mileage by filling right to the brim by pushing vent button.

Miles 2,819.4

Gal's 50.447 (no additives 100 % #2 oil from Chevron or
comparable diesel pumps

Miles per gallon / 55.88

Miles are about 70 % hwy 25 % city and about 5 % from driving on logging roads deer hunting in 1st and 2nd gear up and down the mountians on gravel dirt roads.
Yes I shot two deer a spike and a nice 3 point blacktail deer. Fit in the back with the rear seat down perfectly.
Yes, I am not afraid to use my car for hunting and fishing

What about "trolling"? No one admits to it, but I suspect that there is more than just a little trolling on Fred's forum.

42.11 gallons and 2106.08 miles (partial fill-ups because I didn't have the money to fill up completly) for a solid 50 mpg even.

It's getting colder here (around 0C), so fuel economy is down the drain...

Still 5% better than last year for the month of November...

On the single tank I used in November last year I got 47.5 mpg.

Hi all. My average for November is staying around 41 MPG.
Again, this is an auto with only 3049 miles. Used Power Service Diesel Kleen as usual also (8 oz.).

First fill 11/6 - 469.5 miles/11.37 Gal = 41.3 MPG
Second fill 11/13 - 436 miles/10.62 Gal = 41.1 MPG
Total November (so far) - 905.5 miles/21.99 Gal = 41.2 MPG

Not bad numbers for a newbie, eh?
I think it really has to do with the fact that it gets about 90% of its mileage on the highway. She has a lead foot also, so I'm wondering what it would get if I could convince her to stay within 2 - 3 MPH of the speed limit.

I only added 6 oz. of Diesel Kleen this fill since I didn't have to give it that much diesel. This is an auto.
