For some reason that image has stuck with me - - very graphic.

Should someone create a brief sticky thread so people can check their cars? This issue was addressed in 2001 yet people are still finding it today in 2003MY cars.

As previously noted, the only thing worse than coolant migration is CCV+EGR

It should be put at the top of the 'How To's' thread perhaps? Hmm... Maby people wouldn't see it there. This is defintally an issue that EVERYONE needs to know about.

No, the prevention is simple. The fix is far from simple...

Do we really know for sure that the weep hole will prevent coolant migration?

I melted the hole on my 03 but I am watching carefully for and leaks and or updates on this board.

I left the orange gasket in place for now. I have thought about finding a wrecked Jetta and making a short harness with soldered on spade connectors. That way if there were any warranty issues it could be removed and the original wiring would stock.

It will prevent it (the weep hole). As the bottle pumps it out (if it is defective) it will (the fluid) go out the easiest passage, which would be the weephole. It wouldn't force itself through the seal. Thats why you keep the seal, and drill the hole.

Wouldn't a hole on the housing promote corrosion on the connectors? Mine's an '02 with 88k miles. I think i'm safe since no migration is present

No. The connector covers the connectors when plugged in.

Hi DD, That's F'd up! I don't get to meet you at the Fest, yet I discovered a coolant migration problem on an 03 Jetta 1.8T that was being chipped by Jeff of RC. I say that this issue should be one of the first things to check on any VW you come in contact with, especially if you are seareching for a used one. Later!

Hmm, I'm fairly new with a 2004 Jetta TDI, is this something I need to be concerned about?
