Default Shortwave: Becker Mexico 2340 vs. Sony XR-CA620X

The shortwave-capable Sony has come on sale locally for a very tempting $299 Cdn (approx $230 US). This is a "boxing week sale" and, I suspect, a clearance sale.

My Becker has been good except for a little LED failure in the faceplate for which I have to send it to New Jersey to get fixed or replaced...ouch $$$.

I find the Sony a little gaudy.

However, if it can significantly outperform the Becker, I'll give it a whirl. Here's the dilemma. There's some opinions and discussions about these units out on the web but no hard data on sensitivity, selectivity, etc. that would give you a side-by-side comparison of the performance of the two HU's.

So if any of you hams or fellow SWL geeks ( ) can point me to hardcore stats, it would be much appreciated.

Sorry didn't see the shortwave thing. Ignore my post.

I donot understand why you buy this while a brand new sony cdx-mp40 is only listed as $199, which you can get for around $130 on ebay? That one also have CD/MD changer control/FM/AM and rated 52Wx4 (peak), it can even play CD, and mp3 cds. The SN ratio for CD is 90db.

I still prefer Alpine though, their SN ratio is 105DB, if my memory serves.
