Default Buyback Appt Question

Hey guys, I know this has been discussed before but I tried searching for my specific example and didn’t see anything similar.

My appointment for the buyback is in a couple days, and it leaks/dumps out the coolant. It runs fine and I will be able to move it 5 feet if that’s all the specialist is looking for. I’m concerned they will flag the car as inoperable because the coolant light will be flashing? I was planning on having the TDI towed in because I don’t trust it for more than a couple miles and so I can drive myself home.

Anybody have any insight on this?

I've been reading turn-in anecdotes on this forum since the buyback started, and lights on the dashboard don't count. As long as you can drive the thing, it's good to go.*
Here's an anecdote of my own: Last April, I attended our son's buyback (at Village VW, Chattanooga) on his '13 Jetta. It had been T-boned on the passenger side, ruining both doors, which had duct tape around the tops to keep the water out.....looked pretty funky. They didn't even make him start and drive the car; he got his EFT payment 3 days later (after already pocketing the insurance settlement).
*NB: "Stripping" the car, aka the removal of any original equipment, is evidently a whole other matter, which should be approached very cautiously, if at all. Judge Breyer has ruled this a no-no.

Tow it the dealership without plates and registration. This way you have a reason WHY its being towed - no plates so you didnt want to risk driving it illegally.

Make sure coolant is topped off to the very top.

You will only have to drive it 5 feet forward OR reverse so position the car in a way that you dont have to move it around too much.
