01299 diagnostic interface for data bus (j533) 49-10 no communications

What tool did you use to pull/read the codes?
First thing is to clear them and see which ones come back (or not).

Start here with diagnosis, look for some common stuff.
Ross-Tech Wiki
At first glance it looks like some wiring issues.

Can you clarify what you mean by this, and what symptoms the car is exhibiting? Dunno that those are air-bag codes?

Note: The above is to the best of my knowledge- but at the end of the day simply interweb opinion, worth EXACTLY what you paid for it, and if used done so at your own risk.

Did a bag deploy or did you replace any components?
Code seems pretty straight forward, it's either the wiring or the module. The air bag system is finicky.

J533 is the CAN Gateway (in the Cluster) on that car. You may just have a bricked SRS module.

Check the CAN Gateway and see if it has a communication DTC for the SRS alone, or anything else.

Several years ago I had to change the clock spring on my Golf. The air bag light was on and the horn did not work. I don't recall the DTC's.

the car has a clean title. No air bag deployment that I know of and the horn works so that should rule out the clock spring right? I googled the codes and the big one, said it is for the air bag control module. Is it common for the modules to crap out?
