Where is the best place & price to buy oil at besides the dealership?

With the VW 507 spec. the local O'Reilys, NAPA & Auto Zone have nothing on the shelf with the 507 designation.

I ordered LM Top Tec 4200 from idparts... great service.

Now my local Napa will get me the same oil, a day wait... $52 plus tax.

What does your dealership charge for 507 oil? It was less than $8/L for Castrol at my dealer. Even with tax, it was cheaper than buying it online and paying shipping.

I have also found the dealer oil to be competitively priced.

I evan asked why it is so cheap and lower than buying it online. They explained that they buy so much oil, and they can pass the savings on to their customers. I felt like going outside to check the front of the building, to see if I was really at a VW dealership.

Same thing happened when I bought a gallon of coolant at the dealership. They told me that time that they thought the suggested retail price was nutso.

If the price is too high I just tell them I will order online. A lot of times get free shipping and no tax. Hard parts seem to be another issue though. They are never as inexpensive as I can find OEM parts online.

Pepboys sometimes puts Mobile 1 on sale $5 a qt/lt, you may have to straighten out the manager that their add doesn't state which of the 8 different types of M1 is on sale, but they will cave eventually. I ended up with 12L for only $60.

Look around on Black Friday.

The Castrol 507.00 oil at our local dealer is about $9/quart. Not the cheapest out there, but not that bad, either.

Lately I have been buying up oil and DSG service kits from Craigslist from those turning their cars in. Buy up their left over supplies for cheap.

I have purchased Pentosin 507 from there too. I’m glad they have it.
