Old style 02J Shift tower

Note on the photo: I do have all the missing parts, just at the time of this photo they weren't installed
I'm trying to adjust my old style 02J gear selector, hard to select 1st and 2nd when starting off, and I don't have VW's Special tool 3422 and Gear Lever Gauge and 3192/1 Pin & Wedge.
Just finished doing an auto to manual swap.
Broke down the 02J to see if any wear, none.
Bushings on shift tower are good.
All bushings in shifter box (inside cabin) are good.
I think it just needs adjusting.
I do have Bentley manual but they show doing it with VW's special tools
Any one know how?

I didn't know there was a way to adjust them? I just upgraded to the pin style and it cured all my shifting issues

Did you replace the transmission shift tower along with the shifter box (inside cabin) to the new style?

Yeah.. Was one of the easier upgrades that I've done.
