Default Passat VW OEM Alarm Kit - What does it do?

I have a 2013 TDI SE & I dont see Alarm Kit as an Option on my Spec Sheet.
I have the "Red" LED Like Light on my Drivers side door & The Red Button on the Keyfob does the Panic thing..

So what does this VW OEM Alarm Kit do different?

Long story short you can enable the factory alarm in VCDS and save the money on an alarm kit, which is a waste of money, in my opinion.

I have to agree. I did break down and bought the hood-open sensor but it was $28 and it so no big deal and it is not required. No way was I going to spend the money for the siren horn and pull the wipers/tray out to install it when the stock horn can be used and from what I have read is much louder.

Just a side note...Whenever I have filled out an application for auto insurance one of the many questions asked it "does the vehicle have alarm?" so it does save you money by having enabled.

Glad I stumbled across this little tidbit. I'll have to get that activated.
