Default Rotella T5

I Know..Another Oil Question
Yes . I used the Search ...Been Reading Alot on Oils tonight.

I don't see any Info. on the Rotella T5 10w-30 here on the Forum.
I picked up a Bottle of this the other day .I read that it was a Energy saving Fuel economy performance oil.
I see that it meets the CJ-4 , CI-4 Plus , CI-4
And is Compared to conventional SAE 15w-40
I have not changed out my oil yet. I wanted some input befor doing so.
Anyone run this in there Tdi's?

I'm not clear on why anyone would run anything but 5W40 in an older tdi.

Why I can't recommend a tdi > MY 06 st this time
Why I recommend fuel additive.

You could run it.... The additive chemistry is certainly better than the old VW 505.00 oil that was originally specified for your engine. I actually like the 10w-30, diesel rated oils for high mileage gas engines, since they are formulated as "thick" SAE 30wts. The CJ-4 spec requires that 10w-30's have a HT/HS viscosity of at least 3.5 Centipoise, vs 3.0-3.2 Cp for most gas engine oils (API/SN).

For an older TDI in Florida, a 5w-40/10w-40 or 15w-40 synthetic is a much better choice, however....

That oil breaks down LONG before the Full Syn will. The immediate cost savings QUICKLY goes out the door when you have to change @ 3K, as opposed to 10k on Full Syn.

Yea. I'm sure most people said that when Synthetics came out also.

I've Never Been One to Run My Sythetic in My Cummins for 10K .I'll run 5K tops with the synthetic. So I don't mind the Extra time on shorter services to keep piece of Mind . I've seen a few Motors wipe a bearing out or sludge up because The dealer told them they could go 5K on ( non Sythetic oil services.)

I've personally gone 10-12,000 miles on T6 , but I wouldn't use T5 in my TDI EXCEPT possibly in the summer.

15W40 - takes a LOT longer to flow through out the engine than 5W40.

I think my car is at 11.5k at the moment on T6......

I keep telling my son it's time to change the oil. He likes the 50+ MPGs on his 150 mile daily commute (was using a Jeep Cherokee with big wheels).....

We are talking about a 10w30, synthetic blend. Unless it gets below 0F / -20C, you should be good.
