Dropped 2011 Golf for 10k service
I just dropped off my 2011 Golf for it's 10k service. The service manager was knowledgeable about using VW 507 spec oil and was also aware that the car using less than 5 quarts of oil. He also knew that the oil comes in liter bottles. I asked him if I can have the remaining oil, he said he'll look into it.
I also asked them to check squeaky door, fraying seat and the occasional rattle from the passenger side door.
I haven't found too many reviews about Boardwalk VW in Redwood City so I will post my opinion when I get the car back later today.

Welcome to VW, where people write in amazement when a dealership actually understands how to service a car they are paid to understand </sarcasm>.
And good luck on the crappy fraying seats- I'm a larger guy (6'4, 225lbs) and my wife is only about 5'6 at 120lbs- her seat, which she sat in MAYBE 6-8 times in the 365 days I owned the thing looked completely trashed. And no, she's not a "studded belt" wearing hipster- my seat looked nearly new. Even with just 4,000 miles on it, the dealership wouldn't do anything to assist me and chalked it up to "normal". Add that to the large amounts of rattles that popped up and the interior felt about 5 years old to me after just 1 year. I hope they are better with you, my main 2 St. Louis dealerships did nothing about it. However, I never had an issue at the 10k,20k, or 30k service and always received the proper oil/levels.

I've had a similar issue, and sense, strongly, that it is not coming from inside the driver's side door panel, but is the latch of the actual door -- not set tight enough when the door is closed. Just a thought....

I wanted to report back about my experience.
Oil change done - 0.5 liters of Castrol SLX in a gold bottle left in the passenger footwell so I'm hoping that's what they used and they used the correct quantity
Squeaky door - lubed the hinges. Doesn't squeak now.
Frayed seat - ordered seat cover and will replace when it comes in
Performed recall on fuel injector lines.
Washed the car.
Overall, I am happy with the experience.

Good to hear! Maybe I'll make the trek up there to get this done instead of Sunnyvale VW, or just do it myself.
Thanks for posting.

They gave you one (or two?) seat covers because your seats were fraying? What do they look like?

It might be worth the trek. When I talked to the Service Manager at Sunnyvale a year ago (during my 90 check), he said that the Spec 507 oil is expensive and so they use the bulk oil from barrels. Needless to say, I was shocked and decided that I didn't want to bring my car back there.

Bulk is fine, as long as it's 507 spec oil! I'll have to give them a ring and inquire. With my limited (unhappy) interactions with them, I'm hesitant to go back there.

I'm not sure how many seat covers they are giving me. I would image that it would only be the drivers side.
AGOODHI
I was under the impression that 507 is only available as quart bottles.

I called Sunnyvale the other day, and spoke with someone in the service dept. I asked about what brand oil they use on 2011 TDIs, she said "I think Castrol". She didn't sound too confident. Not a good enough answer for me. I'll call up Boardwalk and ask too.

Thumbs up!
Took the TDI in for 10k @Boardwalk. Waited for about 2 hours for it, but overall was satisfied with the work. I asked Chris, the service writer about what oil they use. At first he mentioned Mobil 1, but he came back later and told me he misspoke, and said Castrol SLX. He left .5L bottle in a plastic bag on the passenger seat. definitely worth the drive and wait.

Wow, wish that was my dealer in Port Charlotte, Fl. Here we have the crappy Charlotte VW, I use another dealer 45 miles away rather then use their incompetent techs and their crappy service manager.

Not sure how you had left over? 4 liters is just a little over 4 quarts (4.2 qts), which is the ideal volume, when you change the oil filter. My Ref. is Bentley service manual, pg 17 - 2. I also change my own oil, 4 liters is it, no left overs. Seems like they gave you half a liter just to make you happy. Check to make sure they didn't overfill.

Gmcjetpilot, I thought the CJAA engine took 4.3L? Is yours a CBEA?
