Default Fault code p1557

I am the owner of a 2001 vw golf tdi with 183 k on the clock.recently when driving the car seems to loose turbo power and seems to go into a limp mode even though no lights come on the dash.when I turn the ingnition off then on the car goes back to normal.this has happened twice now in 2 months.I had a computer plugged in and the code p1557 came up.I was wondering if this is a sign the turbo is on it's way out or could it be a simple problem.if it's the turbo don't think it would be worth my while changing it due to the age and milege.any help would be great.

a great site for looking up codes
it's possible your turbo is dead, more likely it's bad vacuum hoses or frozen/rusted actuator.
the link in my signature contains a complete diagnostic
