2012 passat tdi w/ check engine light; VCDS chasis type?

my '12 passat tdi now has 7,000 miles racked up since september. fuel economy has been good at about 42.5 average since new. i'm prety happy with it so far.

however, first problem i've had is an intermittant check engine light. bringing it back tomorrow for the dealer to check out.

would like to scan it first but unsure which chassis type to select in the VCDS autoscan function.

is B7 the correct chassis type for this car?

Afraid I can't answer your B7 question, but guessing selecting "auto detect" (or whatever its labeled) is sufficient.

If that doesn't work, then shoot an email to Ross-Tech.

Yep, use Auto-Detect. In general, you can check VIN digits 7&8 which should be A3 for the NAR B7 NMS Passat.

Forgot to mention that the "addblue" warning showed up the other day replete with words bout "no restart" in 200 miles if it wasn't refilled. Thought that was strange after only 7k miles. And I could still hear it sloshing round in the tank so I know I wasn't close to needing a refill. That warning disappeared at restart.

They're also gonna do some vw service bulletin stuff while it's in.

Driving a gas jetta loaner. Sure like my car better. Will post results of dealer checkout but might have to drive the loaner for a couple of days sez the service advisor. My MIL issue is most repeatable w short trips so they should be able to duplicate them. But they're short staffed this week so he couldn't promise they'd finish today.

UPDATE:
so the dealer service advisor called. sez the car needs a replacement "addblue" injector and that all the issues are related to that item. they've expedited the part but still won't have the car ready til next week.

i asked what that part has to do with the one code bout the cyl #2 glow plug. sed he would get back to me bout that. glad i scanned it first.

guess i'll drive the loaner some more. :-(

replaced N474 reducing agent injector (piss-a-lator)

got my car back yesterday. they replaced the "addblue" injector (which has been nick named the "piss-a-lator" by a wise ass friend of mine). here is a link to a picture of the $275.00 part:

i wasn't pleased that i had to drive the loaner for a week or that i had this problem to begin with, however, overall i think i was treated very well.

i would recommend The O'brien Auto Group of Salem, OR and can't say enough good things about my service adviser there--Eric Bert.

the car looks good (they cleaned & fueled it) and runs great. seemed to be getting better milage on the 50 mile trip home but won't know if that's true til i run a couple of tanks thru.


i'm thinking bout buying an extended warranty though. this car is loaded with sensors and controls like the one that failed. hope the rest are more reliable than this N474 valve.

Just remember you can buy the extended warranty just before the other one is about to expire, so do not rush out and buy it now from the dealer. Go to vw.com directly.

it's baaack! more piss-a-lator issues.

this is starting to get annoying. my sweetie borrowed the passat today while her honda was being serviced. she called about mid day to announce that the car had popped another CEL. i scanned it tonight and its the reductant pressure signal again. here's the VCDS clip from tonight's scan:

saga continues

so with some snowy weather here last week i didn't get the car back to the dealer 'til last thursday. they confirmed the CEL stored the same code as last time---implausible signal in the reductant pressure sensor circuit. they're relying on VW tech line for instructions to repair. i was told that since this is the second try to resolve this issue, the priority level is different at VW.

today they ordered repair/replacement parts for the addblue pump system. parts should be available tomorrow but it'll probly be wednesday or later before the car is ready for me to pick up.

seems like the hard way to fix things....a sort of shot gun approach without good troubleshooting technique. i still trust that they'll get it fixed but i wouldn't be surprised if this isn't the final attempt.

a day or two more of driving the loaner. :(

so they've replaced the "addblue" pump/pressure sensor. the service advisor sez the part alone is priced at $700.00! i'll post a link to pictures of the part next.

car runs and drives great! (as usual.) MFI clocked 50+ mpg average for the trip home.

hope it's fixed this time. there isn't much left in that system that hasn't been replaced or tested.

I have the same problem now! @ around 8K miles same symtoms. Dealer just reset the ECU tech said "just some wierd exhaust codes" Now at 12K it's back!!! time to head toward the dealer with this thread in hand. Question did your car smoke during a regen cycle when you were having this problem?

They're leaning towards this as the problem with mine as well. It must be difficult to troubleshoot this system.

Even if the CEL turns off, check faults anyway. They should still be present.

Ah, the wonderful world of the CEL! We were about two years into our current car ('04 SAAB 9-5) and the light comes on. Try the fuel tank cap dodge- no go. Car seems to be running fine. Call the dealer service manager. He basically asks "Have you tried the loose gas cap test and does the car seem to be running fine?" Drove it with the light going on & off for about a year, dealer unable to diagnose (no codes). Suddenly my wife had it go into limp mode when trying to drive home from the dentist. Car wouldn't stay running without foot a bit into the gas. I got it driven up to the dealer and it was throwing a couple of codes. They replaced the MAF sensor and the DIC (on SAAB, the direct ignition cassette that fits down over the plugs, containing all the coils). Been fine for 2 more years now......

I had p2200 on mine with 500 miles on it. The dealer replaced the NOx sensor and the light has not come on since. 4000 miles now

The equivalent in VCDS would have been:

008704 - NOx Sensor 1 Bank 1
P2200 - 003 - Electrical Malfunction (probably, there are other elaborators)

Last time it was just the 1 code

17932 Particulate Trap Bank Effiency below Threshold

Haven't had any Ad Blue warnings recently though

Getting close to the 20K mile check and will let them deal with it then
