Car is a 1997 Passat, new to me. Today I noticed that the oil pressure switch on top of the oil filter housing has a green wire with a factory male terminal that is just hanging there, not connected. The wire is only about 4 inches long, but I can't seem to locate where it plugs to. Can someone describe this to me?

There is one extra wire, that is not used on US Passats; it's for the oil temperature sending unit.

Do you have 2 oil pressure switches installed and wired, on the oil filter adapter?

He should have one on the oil filter adaptor, and one on the end of the head (iirc).

I don't but he should.

Yep..., don't know who is correct but I know there are three wires!
Two are connected and one is hanging loose, it is OK. let it be.

If there are no bells or buzzers related to the oil pressure ALL is OK!

There is one with a subtantial rubber boot on it located on top of the oil filter adapter-it's grey- that's the one with the loose wire. I do have a sender (blue) srewed in to the end (driver side) of the head. Sounds like it tha way it's supposed to be. Thanks.

Wait, which end is loose?

Whoa. Are you saying that the pressure switch on the oil filter housing has a wire connected to it and this wire is not connected to anything else?

Per the Bently, Wire colors for a '97 Passat:
High pressure switch (F1), sensed above 2000rpm: Yellow
Low pressure switch, (F22 / 0.3 bar), sensed below 2000rpm: blue/black stripe
Oil Temperature sensor (G8) : Green/White Stripe

Yep. TonyJetta listed the wires, and we don't have the oil temp sensor.

IIRC, members Chris Bell or dewhite2485@hotmail.com has mods to enable oil temp reading, in an MFA cluster. I thought I read something to that effect. I have been wrong before!

'96 1Z B4 has two pressure switches on the oil filter housing, and a plug where the GLX oil temp sender would otherwise screw in. Turbo oil supply comes from the port on the flywheel end of the cylinder head.
'97 1Z (really an AHU) B4 has one switch, one plug, and the turbo oil supply pipe in the filter housing. The second pressure switch is re-located to the end of the cylinder head.
