AJAX, ON, Jan. 3 /CNW/ - Volkswagen Canada set another milestone in 2000 (the second year in a row) by breaking the 1999 sales total by 1,138 units. Sales for 2000 were 43,138, compared with last year's record of 42,000 units, an increase of 2.7%.
Volkswagen Canada finished the year on a positive note, with sales of 2,996 units during the month of December.
Volkswagen's best selling sedan, the Jetta, maintained the momentum with sales totaling 22,455 units, compared with 20,133 units in 1999, an increase of 11.5%. Passat sales amounted to 4,574, also an increase of 353 units from 1999. The Golf and GTi continued to generate strong sales with totals of 8,013 and 1,048 respectively. New Beetle sales also remained stable with a year-end total 6,023 units.
Volkswagen Canada attributes its success to a solid model line and the continuing, strong Canadian economy. The company looks forward to maintaining these results during 2001 with the introduction of several new models, including the New Passat.
