They're "vortex generators".

The idea is they trip the airflow boundary layer, which promotes better ability for the air to conform to directional changes (such as the angle from the roof to the rear glass). Getting the airflow to stay attached to this transition creates a smaller rear wake, which equates to less vacuum drag behind the car = better fuel economy.
The problem is that they present their own local airflow drag at the same time that they are helping to minimize the total rear wake. So I was more or less unable to really prove their effectiveness. But they certainly didn't hurt.

Whoo-hoo! Finally back to summer mode. After lowering the coils and swapping wheels/tires, I had to get over to the car wash asap.



Then I ran out of daylight during my wax job



It was over 80 degrees on Thursday! In Michigan, in April, that's a big deal. My coworkers thought I was nuts for taking some photos out back.
