We just got our 2009 Jetta TDI for the Mrs and she wants to get the auto dim rear view mirror like they have in the Passat.
Has anyone put one in??

That definitely makes it a better deal! Now, all you got to do is wire the temp sensor to somewhere around the TDI's lower grill area and get the power from the 12v overhead console light above..... Very do-able.Pelican18TQA4 said:Gees I'm good, I have found the adapter to make the Gentex mirrors mount on the VW windshield! FYI, I did have help from a guy on vwvortex that originally located this adapter a few years ago.

The Audi mirror is expensive, even moreso than the Gentex mirror I believe. The adapter I posted about a couple posts up is about $40 USD including shipping and will allow a very easy install.kcfoxie said:http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2601273&page=1
It appears that a Audi A4 autodim mirror w/ compass (in factory red that matches the rest of the car) will mount on the non-rain sensing Windshield mount and will then need a single wire connected (tap into the sunroof control or mood lighting for non-sunroof cars) to power it.
Far easier method, if you ask me, than replacing the mount. Up to your needs I suppose. I want to do this + get custom blue tinted side mirrors (like Mercedes cars have, also reduces glare at night).
That looks like the adapter that is required for JDM cars. It is not the one required for VWs.Da~da~da said:

They even have an option for the VW/Audi adapter for an extra $18. It was $187 for the mirror, adapter and wire cover, plus $0.56 shipping (yes, that is correct).
From some of the posts that I have read on a couple of VW forums, the installation should not be too difficult. I intend to just tap into the power in the overhead panel.
Yep, I saw that on another forum. But the visors are not auto dimming This way I kill two birds with one stone.MonsterTDI09 said:You can buy a visor with home link.
Just got it a couple of days ago and haven't done the install yet. I will hold off, since it will be a Christmas present for my wife.UKSFighter said:Very cool... graceman - how did your install go? Where is everyone powering it from? Aedion?
Got any pics? Plug and play on the windshield with the adapter that they sell?
i routed the power down to the fuse box, and then i spliced a 12v line and added the mirrors wire to it. i dont have any pictures of the actual installation taking place, but the removal of the panel was what took the longest.UKSFighter said:Very cool... graceman - how did your install go?
