November 2008 Mileage Thread

This is a month by month competition. Every time you make an entry it will be added up and recorded together according to the fuel type and car/year you are driving.
THIS IS NOT an individual tank competition (or a partial tank competition for that matter).

Entries will be accepted until December 5th, but remember, report tanks FILLED IN November.

Entry Format:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Driver:
Miles:
Gallons:
Model Year:
Model:
Tranny:
Fuel Type:

You are allowed to put more than one fill up in a post, so long as each fill up conforms to format.

MPG: (optional since I will calculate it automatically anyway)
(anything else you would like to add)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Hint on entering your data - after the colon ( ":") put a space.

US GALLONS AND MILES

TRANNY TYPES:
(x) A = x speed automatic
(x) M = x speed manual *
DSG = direct-shift gearbox
CVT = continuously variable transmission
* if you have swapped in a taller 5th gear please noted this (ie: 5M w/.681)

FUEL TYPES:
Bx = biodiesel - x is the percentage of bio
Biodiesel use equal to, or more than B20, will be indicated in GREEN.
ULSD / LSD / D2 = normal petroleum based diesel
Also please note if it's winterized

- please note if you are using a fuel additive (ie: ULSD +PS)
- - Power Service (PS); Stanadyne (ST); Redline (RL)

Posts not in format will not be tallied / corrected.

Please do not go back and add additional fillups to a post. Multiple fillups per post is fine as long as all fillups are in format. If the driver name is not the same as your post name - this will be considered "Not in format" and will not be counted. Only exceptions would be "and spouse" etc.

Final Results:

First fill up of November, with 52.3 mpg. Not bad for an A5, but a slight drop from what I was averaging in October. However, I'm happy with it b/c I was expecting to take a bigger hit for the several days when I broke my 55 mph cap when I was running late for picking up the kids from daycare. Being late for that will get you BIG, BIG fines

I put my winter rims and I drove almost half a tank not realizing that my tires were only inflated to 20 PSI!! I inflated them to about 40PSI and it should be pretty good from here on out.... My 15's are 26 lbs lighter than my 18's (for the set of 4) so I'm hoping to get a little bit better mileage...

The above mileage was achieved driving 62 to 68 mph including 75 or so miles of stop and go driving. However, there was a pretty good tail wind (20 – 30 mph) going and comming over much of the trip.

Hi.

Just joined the club tonight. I'd like to add my MPG info to the Novemebr thread if it isn't too late. I purchased new obviously. Not getting the MPG I was expecting. I read all the info on the Taylor's trip across the USA to break the World Record for fuel efficiency. Good stuff, but wheres' my 58 MPG? Anyways, love the car!!! Look forward to learning from all of you and sharing ideas. Great stuff here!

MacBuckeye
2009 TDi 6spd Auto
37.69 MPG on 1st tank
Driving 92 miles per day, 90% highway
I cruise @ 75-80 MPH while on the highway
38.68 MPG on 2nd tank (long trip back up North)
35.46 MPG on 3rd tank (to/from work, pick up kids at school, soccer practice, etc.)

That's Mrs. Lug_Nut for those that don't recognize the name. She said that she'd given up trying to get good mileage as of a few tanks ago and is simply driving as she damnwell feels like. Appears to have helped, actually.

And I think I would also forget about doing the font stuff. Plain text without all the formating commands works just fine. I also have to mention that if Iwas running this month's contest - neither one of your posts would be used as an entry - I'm not going to work that hard getting all posts into a standard format.

And yes I DO drive that slow - as do some other NC TDI'ers. I'm actually averaging over 40 MPG with my 2000 NB 4 speed slushbox over the last 5 tanks...

Not sure where that text formating stuff came from- odd. I have business contacts in Youngsville and I live just 15 min South of there. Anyway, by driving slower I'm closer to 42 MPG at the moment. Will run this tank out to see what it actually gets. Otherwise I'm just going to enjoy driving this car and forget about all this MPG stuff. I'll be sure and wave when I fly past you.

Model Year: 2000 (early)
Model: Passat 1.9TDi 115hp PD

Fuel Type: ULSD

I had a service booked about half-way through the tank, so at times I was trying to decoke the engine.

The front tyres finally reached their limit, so I replaced them with the new Michelin Energy Savers (the rear tyres have the old Michelin Energy E3A).

* Trip computer claims 65.9 imperial mpg.
* Reserve light came on at 833 miles.
