Default Rotella 5-40 or Mobil 1 0-40

My Beetle TDI 2001 is at 105,000 miles. Since 70,000 miles (except at 90,000 miles I went to the dealer for belt-water pump (as they suggest me at the same time) etc.), I use Rotella t 5-40 every 5000 miles. Since 4 months, I run about 800 miles a week including a weekend round trip of 500 miles (Sorrento to Miami round trip). I noticed for the last 3 oil change that the Rotella is perfect for the first 4000 miles. Then, on the last thousand miles, I have to add a quarter of a quart of oil. Does it mean that this oil is perfectly good for 4000 miles? I buy my gallon and quarts of Rotella at Wartmall for x amount of dollars. I bring that oil to my oil change place and my total including my own oil is $4.00 more than if I would used their Mobil1 0-40. When I looked at the bottle of the Mobil1, I see that this oil is handshaking with VW's requirement... Should I switch?

Thank you for any input

If the Mobil is the European Car Formula 0W40, rated for Volkswagen 505.00, then both oils are good for 10,000 mile change intervals.

Otherwise, then stick with the Rotella T. And, you can go out to 10,000 mile intervals.

The oil you're using is good for the full 10,000 mile oil change interval.

How full is it after an oil change, and at what level do you add a 1/4 of quart?

Both oils are good oils.

Any idea how long I should run 5W40 Rotella in my 1992 TD Jetta? The car was obviously designed to run regular non-synthetic oil, but regardless, I've never had a clear answer on this one and I'm not keen on running an oil analysis.

The original oil change interval for your car is 5000 miles.

I'd try 7500, myself.

Thank you everybody for all your good judgment. Suggestions are differents but all of them make sense. This is why I always come back to this site when I need feedback. I'll try the Mobil 1 0-40 next time. If I see any difference, I'll post it.

truly appreciate
