This is how the contest works:
This is a month by month competition. Everytime you make an entry it will be added up and recorded together according to the fuel type and car/year you are driving.
THIS IS NOT an individual tank competition (or a partial tank competition for that matter).

Entries will be accepted until August 5th...but remember, report tanks filled in JULY.

If you have any questions, PM me.

[please use the below format for your entry]

What engine did they put in the 2006 A4 in Mexico? My 2006 A4 PD is simply not capable of those kind of numbers. It can't even crack 55mpg at 1900 rpms all highway driving with tires at 38psi, so I am very impressed with your numbers.

Eng. code/Trans code is: AXR EUH.

I was told the following, but point out corrections as appropiate:

The AXR substituted the ATD engine back in the 2003, both are PD 1.9L 74kw.
The AXR has the EDC16+ which also controls the intercoller -in previous engines it was constantly refrigerated.
The AXR has different intake mainifold, inyectors, turbo and fuel (probably for ULSD) and exhaust filters in order to conform to EU IV.
No snow screen.

I supose that all this makes combustion more efficient.

By the way, there is a reviewed Jetta A4 selling today:

He also said in a previous post that he gets 55 cetane fuel.

I am very, very envious of that engine/fuel combo.

Well! That attitude discriminates against B4 wagons! An individual tank is about all I can use in a month.:D
This month's single fillup data are:

Driver: Lug_Nut
Miles: 1181
Gallons: 21.90
Model year: 1997
Model: B4V
Tranny: 5M
Fuel type: B100

Yeah, I would like to add that the gauge indicated I still had another 4 gallons remaining. Thhhppppp!:p

Model: Suzuki VStrom DL1000

Ran this tank at the posted limit. Mountain passes, lots of hills, mostly interstate riding, my daily commute is 56.2 miles each way. Slowing down to the posted limit was good for a 5 mpg pop! This is my all time best tank of gas with this bike. Lifetime average is 48.845 mpg so far, so this will be fun to see what she can do! My TDI kicks my bikes butt!

Took a big hit this tank since most days the A/C was on, most of my highway miles were 75-80 MPH and one high speed run of nearly 10 minutes duration at 115 MPH as I chased a red pontiac that ran me off the road while passing a semi. When the adrenalin subsided common sense prevailed and I thought this is stupid and backed off letting him go.

2006.5 question.

greengeeker said:
Can someone explain the significance of the .5? I can understand why it is needed for 2005.5 but not for 06? Does it mean it was displayed/sold in 07?
I suppose that is what it means since mine was manufactured in Nov 06 and purchased new in April 07. I saw several other people on these forums using the .5 as well. Can someone elaborate on this as I think it has something to do with them not being able to sell them as a 2007 model year as they don't meet the current production diesel emission standards that came into effect in January of 2007. I would appreciate any information that would clarify this.
Thanks

Haha, I pm'd no_one_of_consequence a while back asking him how he did it and man, the response I got was a good one :p He seems to have his daily commute down to a science. He explained how he approaches every situation during his drive, and I don't think I have the patience to drive like he does. He even made me a little picture =]

How in the world are you getting 67 MPG?

You just have to commit to what you do. I think that anyone can achieve FE in the upper 60´s or something. When I joined this forum my driving with the TDI was average, about 40´s. Since then my driving has improved not because of my car or the fuel I use, but following the inspiration and experience of some guys in this forum. Many thank all of you. I would recommend thorough reading in this forum; however the good info is between the lines sometimes.

This is my first diesel and I'm also impressed, considering that the Jetta A4 is not a shoe box. My worst performance is during long trips (250+ miles= 4-5 hours). I would say that best results can be obtained when you drive for about 30 min (eg. daily commute). Have your favorite music handy and try to relax although paying full attention to driving conditions. I have increased the tire pressure from 32 to 35, then to 42 and finally 45, if the road is smooth you wouldn’t feel the difference. I avoid bad roads; no matter how slow you drive your FE will suffer anyway. I key off at traffic lights, taking my chances for 10s stops. I glide whenever the opportunity presents. Use the scangauge as driving guide, the info it provides is much better than a trip computer. Feathery foot only when road is flat, otherwise try to adapt to the topography and use a heavy right foot and then glide. All these have already been said in this forum. I wonder why the "TDI Fuel Economy" discussion area has no moderator and no FAQ.

Cheers
