If you want help organizing your GTG, try messing with this page:

http://tdiclub.wetpaint.com/page/Mic...morial+Day+GTG

it's a new TDIClub Wiki site. I created a page for this GTG. If you want I copied the layout that we are using for a GTG in Wisconsin so you guys can follow that instead of creating from scratch. Let me know if you need any help.

Hey sounds like another fun weekend in MI at JETaah's place, hope to be able to come up and see old friends. That said it is not looking good at present, Linda is still a full time college student, and we have become full time parents for our 2 year old grandson. Not what I had planned to be doing at 62.

At present we are still talking about doing a Fall GTG here as usual in Oct but it is not a sure thing as yet, we should (hope) to be able to say for sure by about mid April.

Things that make you go Buhwahhhhhahhhh
Now I've got to get that mental image out of my head! Walt, you've gotta get up here to defend your honor but leave the "Laddies" calendars home (I assume you've got a lot of those left!)
CoolWht- I always SAY I'm going to be vertical for the GTG and socialize but it just doesn't happen
J:- I think I've seen a dial indicator at Martys' before but check with him, so are you bringing the ECO? and would you notice if the engine went missing??

MOD - I know since you do proclaim your intention to go vertical but somehow you always get sucked underneath the dark murky depths of yet another roundel badged vehicle GTG after GTG but there's always hope you will remain standing this time..... At least us GTG regulars know how to draw you out -- by enticing you with KK's, right?!

Actually what I'm wondering about J-man is how he's going to drive both cars there! .....and remember any engine you find unattached to a car just may be finders keepers!

Ya, tryin to jockey both cars there might be an issue. I'll prolly just bring the ECO then... but I'll need the dial indicator to set the timing.

Does anyone have the dial indicator for setting the timing on the old IDIs? If not I'll prolly buy one.

If you have Mark wear the thong, that'll keep him topside. That string up the butt makes crawling around under a car mighty uncomfortable.....er....so I've been told.... Mark, what DO you wear under those day-glo coveralls? Never mind...don't ask, don't tell....

"anyone interested?" - Very funny, Marty. I'll be there! My problem is, I want to do a complete brake job (warning sensor just went on), with fluid flush and ASR mod on my car, PLUS I'd like to get the wifey's Passat chipped. I can't drive both and wifey is not into "car stuff", so there's no need to even ask her to bring it. Maybe I can coax a co-worker (fellow TDIer) to drive one of them.

PS. Marty, I'll bring the Beaners as usual!

If you're going with new brakes, I *strongly* recommend EBC's "Green Stuff"
http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Automotive.html

Put them on my A3 and they made a huge difference in braking power.

I just contacted greg to see if maybe I can get my head done early. That'd mean I'd just need a spot on the grass for a whole new lighting arrangement

I might be coaxed into bringing my iron and some LEDs and 'fixing' every A3's green lights. Red is so much shaper

You are the second to mention this problem - J was the first to want to bring a pair of TDI's! Maybe the two of you can hire a transporter to haul all four TDI's there - none of them will burn a drop of fuel in the process either so you can be the mileage kings of the day and lord it over us peons who actually used some fuel to get there!

Or maybe round up some more "two-plus TDI households" who want to bring two cars to this GTG and you all can split transporter charges!

The ultra low-buck solution to bring two cars with one driver is to use a short chain with blankets strapped to both bumpers (for scratch/paint rub prevention if you care about that sort of thing) but don't forget to accelerate slowly and to brake early!

I am retiring from the Post Office at the end of April and will take some time off before I get another job. So I will possibly make the trek out to Michigan since I haven't been in several years!

Where did you get the parts for the ASR mod? I've been looking to do this and, if I can swing it, maybe we could do two at once.

Somehow I figured Walt wouldn't have any problem wearing a thong to the GTG I just wish you guys wouldn't encourage him! It's bad for Martys' business, not to mention his neigborhood zoning. And what I wear under the covvies is strictly confidential.
Hey J: Harbor Freight has a dial indicator that's mounted to a vice-grip by a flex arm for less than $30.00 I'm considering going that route myself.
I've always known it but Fair Wifey really is special as she insisted we bring both TDIs as soon as I told her it was on for Memorial weekend. What a gal! Hopefully, diesel will be below $3.00/Gal so we can afford to bring both. At least we can pack both with movables on the trip back.

mark:

Would a magnetic base dial indicator be of use? (with the typical arm)
