Sypower 5W40 meets the performance requirements for VW 505.01.

Valvoline says that Synpower 5-40W meets 505.01 requirement. I have asked for written prove.

I just visited Valvoline's website and cannot find any claim that Synpower (or their synthetic diesel oil for that matter) meets VW spec 505.01

It sure would be nice if Mobil 1 or another supplier would get their oil certified for us!

Several have asked for approval letter and none coming. Frist it was the 5W30 then 20W50 and last they say 5W40. They all will meet it but we still have no VAG letter. There are others Liqui Moly has 5 different oils with 505.01 and they are not on the VAG list. Elf just anounced a 5W30 for 505.01. I think by the end of October the dust will clear. So far the only to total syn oils are Amsoil AFL and Syn Power.

The current Synpower 5W40 is not approved against the VW 505.01 specification. It uses VW 505.01 capable chemistry, similar to the chemistry used in our Synpower MST 5W-30 that we are progressing an official VW 505.01 approval on, and the 5W40 meets all the physical and chemical characteristics required for the VW 505.01 specification. We feel based on the engine test data and the Physical/Chemical characteristics it has VW 505.01 performance and we fully back its use in applications calling for a VW 505.01 approved product.

I got the same answer from Valvoline in Email today - seems they now have a canned response. So it isn't "real" 505.01 Approved Oil.
