Default Memory seat not working

We picked the new car up last week. The sellperson told us the menory seat are not working, and that they did not do the proper input during the PDI.
Is there anyway I can do this.
I am 6'4" and my wife is 5'6"
The powered seat work, just you can not progam the memory into one of the three settings.
Thanks

Here's how to turn the memory seat on:

1) Pull the seat all the way forward
2) Tilt the seat all the way forward
3) Tilt the seatback all the way forward

It still amazes me that VW dealers don't know how to do this.

About once a month, I see one of these "Memory seats not working - damn dealer - cram the seat fully forward" threads.

That's about 4 of them so far since I joined TDiclub.com, including the one I posted...

Default one more seat memory question

I pulled the seat all the way forward
I tlted the seat all the way forward
I tilted the seatback all the way forward

The memory is working except the up and down part of the memory is not.
Did I do something wrong?

YOu have to hold the memory position button down until you reach the position you set. If you let up until you reach it the seat wil stop where it is at that moment.

Try putting the seat all the way down and repeat the "turn on" procedure (??)

Why would this be a dealer problem. If the memory function is installed as part of the package in the factory, shouldn't it also be turned on there? I can't think of a reason that shipping would require this funtion to be disabled.

It's part of the dealer prep.

Talking

Just wanted to say thanks for the info. I picked up my 2006 Jetta TDI pkg 2 two weeks ago and have not been able to figure out how to get the memory seats to work. Now they work fine. Dealer forgot to turn them on. Is there any way to get the mirrors to work in conjunction with the seats?

All the newer Volkswagens, even my '04 Passat, come from the factory in "sleep mode". The CAN is dormant, as are many other functions, and they need to be turned on. This is done primarily to prevent battery drainage until the car is sold and [presumably] in daily use.

The VAG-COM will allow you to put the car back to sleep, which is something I would recommend if you know the car is not going to be driven for over a month or so.

The seat controller has adaptive learning, just like most anything else on the car, and once it is awake, it needs to know where the ends of its positions are. Otherwise the memory will not work. The auto up/down functions on the windows, sunroof, and even some other things need to be enabled during PDI too. This is common, most manufacturers are like this, it isn't just Volkswagen. Just so happens that many techs are too lazy or too dumb to go through the PDI procedure and be sure and get everything working the way it is supposed to. And also, the salesperson is supposed to go over all of those features at delivery, to triple check to make sure everything is working as designed.

Some other things that sometimes do not get checked: spare tire pressure (all 5 tires are overinflated and need to be adjusted, the spare often gets skipped), proper test drive (for Volkswagen I think it is 2 miles), moveable headlight initialization and aim check, washer fluid top-off, DTC memory check/purge, damage to undercarriage (from sloppy transports), and making sure the radio station presets are at least set to some stations and working normally.

It relates to "Read the Owner's Manual"
