glow plug light flashing?
sorry if somebody has started a thread on this before!
i have a slight problem with my passats glow plug light that is getting really annoying
when i turn on the ignition, the glow plug light comes on for an instant and then goes out.......... for about 20 seconds, then it starts flashing away at me like an indicator!
their has been no change in perfomance what-so-ever, and no problems in starting the car at all!
i have checked the brake lights with a friends help and all seem to be working fine,
the car is an unmolested 97 tdi s passat 110bhp.
all and any help would be greatly appreciated

had a similar prob . not sure which thread the solution is featured in but it says that you need to check your plugs with a volt meter to see if they need to be replaced.

Glow Plug Light
I had the same problem on my Jetta. Turned out it was the brake light switch went out. Does your cruise control work? Mine didn't when the switch went out.

Flashing glow plug light on an A4 means an electrical fault in a critical system. IIRC, it's the same thing on the B4, but I'm not certain. Brake light switch is the most common failure mode on A4s. Scan the car with VAG-COM.
On an A2, it means that the water separator needs drained.

well i got it hooked up to a VAGcom and the answer it gave was
"electronic control unit blocked"
the guy cleared it for me, but couldnt actually tell me what the problem was in the first place?
i'll just have to hope that it doesnt happen again!,
if it does, i'll have to get it to a main dealer and have them run a full electronics test
thanks guys!

A burnt out brake light bulb can also trigger a flashing glow plug icon.

Do you have an aftermarket stereo head unit?
If so, try unplugging it, and have it hooked up to a VAG-COM again.
