A question for the 02J knowledgable...

I have an EBJ 5 speed in my 2000 Golf, and I want to buy and FBV and put it in... will this work? Are the ratio's any different, and is there anything else I should look for when replacing my transmission. Any help is appreciated.

Slight problem...the final drive ratio. You'll be revving like crazy. The FBV is what comes with later A4 2.0s.

In 5th gear, instead of 2000rpm at about 56mph, you'd be hitting 2500 at that speed.

The 02J only codes I know of with ratios suitable for the TDI are the DQY, EGR and EBJ.

The other issue is that the EBJ could have either type of clutch (Luk or Sachs), and I don't know which type you have. I don't know if the Luk clutch will work with in later 02Js, or vice versa. I will leave that to the experts.

But as to the ratios...no, the FBV is wildly unsuitable in that aspect.
