Default Engine starts and then stops running

I have a 2002 2 liter (gas) engine. When I try to start it, it starts and immediately stops running. What is wrong, and can I do anything myself.

Immobilizer kicking in maybe? Do you see a flashing key light on the instrument cluster? Might need to recode the keys, but I have had this happen intermittently on my TDI and it went away after using one of the other 2 keys. Something to try, anyway...

I had it happen when I swapped computers. Never tried the key to the guys car that the computer came from. Something to think about.

Matt,
I am having this same problem. The dealer is telling me that you can't swap computers, becuase the ECU is hard-coded to work only with one VIN. Is this true? How did you swap computers if this is the case? I'm so confused.
