Oil Analysis Results - \'00 Jetta TDI - 15k - D1/M1

Also posted on BITOG:

This 15k mile sample was taken with 115k miles on the vehicle and is listed as the 3rd entry in each row. I used a mix of Delvac1 and M1 TSUV. Fuel was ARCO ECD-1 ULSD. I am working with Terry Dyson and have been using Lube Control (LC20) in the oil and Fuel Power (FP60) as a fuel additive along with his other suggestions. This sample was anaylzed by Blackstone. I am very happy with both the analysis results and Terry's services.

A little background…..

I bought my 2000 Jetta TDI 5spd in Fall of '03 with 54k miles on the odometer. The maintenance records were not complete so I opted to run double Auto-RX cleaning cycles with Delvac 1300. After the cleaning and rinse cycles were complete, I switched it over to Delvac 1. (Now using LC20 oil additive)

My driving is 80% Highway (usually 70-75 mph) and 20% City. I don’t baby it.

Fuel: My fuel was exclusively ARCO ECD-1 ULSD with Primrose 405/402. (Now using FP60)

Oil/filters: Delvac 1 with Mann oil filter and Mann air filter.

Mods: Rocketchip Stage 2, Sprint 520 nozzles, Diesel Geek Race Pipe, ONCCV, CAT Fuel Filter, OMI, BoostValve.

Lab: Testing was performed by Blackstone. Sample drawn via dipstick.

The first set of data had 10k on the oil and 90k on the vehicle. The fourth data set had 10k on the oil and 100k on the vehicle. The third and most recent data is for a 15k interval with 115k on the ODO.

the values look very, very good, especially for a chipped car!

your TDI is going to run forever!

i am surprised that with ULSD fuel the TBN dropped to 4.8 after 15k - i would have thought that in the abscence of fuel sulfur, the high initial TBN of M1T&SUV would have just dropped a few points after 15k.

nice mods list! have you ever had it dynoed? what's Terry recommending for your next OCI length?

Where are you finding arco ECD 1? Last time I checked, the closest stations were in Fallbrook, and Perris.

SUNRG,

No, never had it on a dyno. Others with similar mods get 130-140 hp and 230-240 ft/lbs. torque. Regardless of the actual dyno numbers, it goes just fine, doesn't slip my Luk clutch, and still gets 50 mpg.

We will try stretching this current OCI out to 20k. I feel confident it should make it by a safe margin.

Mannytranny,

Correct, No ECD-1 in Temecula/Murrieta. I have a long daily commute (120) miles that takes me past several ARCO's with ECD-1. Graham street in Lake Elsinore is one of the closest ones. Possibly you can find a station that works for you here http://www.ecdiesel.com/documents/ecd-1_retail_list.pdf

scooter - so how low will you and Terry allow the TBN to go? i ask because some people change the oil when it's TBN drops below 1/2 of it's new (VOA) value, while others will run an oil until the TBN drops below 2.

your oil is already a few points below 1/2 the VOA TBN of M1-T&SUV, but all other numbers still look great.

SUNRG,

I think TBN is just one of the factors Terry uses to evaluate the health and effectiveness of an oil sample. I don't know what he uses for a minimum TBN.
