Thanks again for keeping track of all this.

I topped up today, in part because I was able to drive quite slowly for a while over the weekend, I've been able to avoid AC for the most part and it looked like a good tank.

Date: 9//05
Fuel: 7.05 gal of B100
Distance: 333.9
----------------
Mileage: 47.36 mpg with B100

This is a personal best.

$2.959 for premium B5. Most of the rotgut was selling for $2.795.

Not my best tank, but I had a little more "'round town" driving than usual.

639.9 miles on 16.51 gallons of D2. Makes for 38.76 MPG, but I have an auto-x day on this tank.

Nicely done, Ernie! I look forward to hearing the details of your trip. I just hope it doesn't take as long to read as it likely took you to drive

Wow jnecr! That is a record for you isn't it? Nice job!!! That is a great number! And Ernie, you are the man!!!
Wow, Marc you noticed!
It's a record for me on 18" wheels. I made a trip to South Carolina and back. I hit 400 miles at a half tank and it didn't move very far when I hit 500 miles on that tank either. But then I went back to the daily grind of stop-and-go and it really plummeted.

That works out to 46.23 MPG, not too shabby for a Passat. I'll confirm these numbers when I get back home and fill at my usual station.

None currently. MK4/5/6 Jetta's in the past.
It wasn't a full fill up, but diesel hasnt't gone up THAT much in price in my neck of the woods yet, so I filled up.

So 50.97 mpg.

If thats the case, you easily had over 50 MPG going for that tank. That damn stop and go ruined it. Is your 18" wheels suppose to lessen your MPG? I would think it is less revolutions now, hence less work.....but I'm not an engineer by far

The overall diameter of my wheel/tire combo is the same as stock. The wheel doesn't determine overall diameter, it's the tire that does that.

The lower mileage is a combination of two things really. One being that the wheel and tire are wider than stock and add to the friction between the tire and road. But I don't put much of the blame on that because I proved to myself that I can get really great mileage on the highway. Most the blame goes to the weight distribution of the wheel. Since it is a larger wheel the weight is distributed out further from the center which makes the moment of inertia (how much energy it takes to accelerate a rotating object) increase. This really only affects mileage in city driving, but that's about all I do. An interesting point though is that my 18" wheels and tires weigh less than the stock 15" wheels and tires...

I'd be crazy to pass up Amoco Premier Diesel at this price.

9/5/05 - Osceola, WI - $12.23 - D2

This is a return trip follow up to my post from Saturday
Driver: Thunderstruck
Miles: 321
Gallons: 6.94 D2
MPG: 46.25

Driving at 63 pays dividends! There were a few short bursts of triple digit speeds, but most driving was under the limit. More AC use on the return trip, since it was later in the day. Took a 2 mile longer route home through the city due to heavy traffic near O'Hare.

I've got reinforcements. RC2 clean intake, and an OMI among other things.

9/6/5
545.2 miles
15.30 gallons
35.62 mpg
B100 from the Fest!

Working on getting consistancy in my fills back. My wife filled the prvious 2 times.

Ernie, was your return trip consumption rate close to the outbound? It'll be interesting to know how the net uphill and net headwind return trip fares.
I was feeling pretty cocky as my trip to the 'fest returned 68.78 mpg. THEN I heard about Ernie (and at least one other) that bested my number.
This 68+ of mine is not an entry into the Sept competition. This tank full was not my customary "empty to empty" calculations and will really cause confusion if I were to use it. I'll wait until the fuel I purchased at the fest is used up and I start another fresh 50 gallon drum before posting my total of my fuel and mileage for the period.
