My 2013 Jetta's CEL lit up for a day or two during the recent heat wave, but it went away eventually. Since the car is under warranty, I called the dealership and they said to bring it in. Seems the "exhaust flap" was "faulty." Apparently it would have cost about $450 if out of warranty.
The code it threw was P048C, according to the work order.
I'm not sure why the CEL went on and then went off. I did notice, perhaps coincidentally, that my SGII shut itself off for some reason during the same 500-mile trip. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked just fine. I'm thinking perhaps the SG somehow cleared the code without me telling it to. I don't even know how to check that with a SG, other than you can do it.
Anyway, that's a long way of asking my question, which is what is an Exhaust Flap? Is it a waste gate?
