06 jetta tdi limp home mode

i have coolant temp sensor and vane position sensor faults.i replaced both and no difference. runs good first run thru the gears then limps home

May not be limp mode. It could be a faulty brake light switch causing the ECU to limit RPMs because it think the brakes are applied. Does your cruise control engage when you are having the problem?

There are 2 sets of contacts in the brake light switch. 1 for the brake lights and 1 for the ECU. If the set of contacts for the ECU are stuck closed, the CC won't engage, and RPMs will be limited.

If you turn off the key and then start the engine again does the power come back?
Agree this an easy way to check. Also have you checked your EGR cooler and all vacuum lines for leaks? When I had a bad EGR cooler I would go into limp mode every-time it operated because it caused a vacuum leak when it was operating.
