Long term limp mode repercussions?

Hello,

when I bought my van, it had an AHU installed, but very badly... no intercooler, electrics all wrong, and crucially the N75 solenoid not wired up properly or plumbed in correctly. It is now sorted and runs well, pulling brilliantly.

I reckon that for about 10-20,000 miles, the van must have been hitting limp mode when on the motorway, for obvious reasons. I wondered whether there would be any long term adverse effects from this....

Any advice or opinions very much appreciated

"limp mode" is the engine cutting fuel to keep the turbo from self-destructing.

Basically, it might contribute to the wastegate actuator corroding in place, but other than that, I can't think of anything that would be "hurt" with the less aggressive fueling that the ecu is providing.

That is, unless it didn't cut the fueling in time, but it's current condition tends to indicate that it did.

Hello and thanks a lot for the reassuring reply...

in fact the wastegate itself did get stuck shut causing limp mode, and when I took the turbo off it looked pretty knackered so I replaced the turbo with another second hand one I had.... so your analysis is very good I'd say!

Thanks a lot
