I'm hoping to get the head to the machine shop tomorrow. If the head ends up being really bad the car will get the full AHU treatment

92' ECO diesel Available

My 92' ECO D is available to the world.
I haven't used her since Ca decided to screw the pooch vis a vis 99 % biodiesel being criminalized. After 2 months of sitting untouched my kid went to use it and supposedly the fuel pump(injector pump) is shot. I've been out of the country for 3 months so i haven't had a chance to check it out myself and as I'm leaving again for many months i figure it is best to offer her up to wherever she could be most useful.
-has approx 140k miles
-timing belt changed at 127k
-new heater core
-vw silver/grey No pw,pl,no sunroof,moonroof. just a basic gl
-was a decent running car. solid, frugal dependabilty
no reasonable offer refused.
if no interest i will donate to charity for the tax deduction.

Got word back from the machine shop today. The head was slightly warped, but still within tolerance. I think I'm going to go through the 1.6 and save the TDI for a nicer body (IE one with a sunroof). They quoted me $250 labor to flatten the head and install new valve guides and stem seals. Doesn't seem to bad to me.

$250 to get it back into good shape seems reasonable. 1.6 TURBO 4 LIFE!! ;)

I am about done with my engine, but decided the rear subframe was filthy, so last night I dropped that along with the steering rack, control arms, etc. and am currently cleaningit up to match the front subframe I already freshened up....

...man I am never gonna get done with this car, and I miss it dearly.

So oilhammer, it sounds like you're pretty much restoring your entire car. Pretty cool! :D

It's an "under hood" restoration, the rest of the car is in pretty good shape still.

I *may* actually do a MOD to my car, too!

It works, but my A2's trim plate will not attach to that radio, since it indexes into the 4 round holes. Besides, I got those new radios for $25 apiece! :D

My mod list is likely to include TT control arm bushings, and I may do some spring/strut upgradings as well.

So far, the only mods to that car:

seatbelt interlock defeat
seat track stop pin (1 inch more legroom!)
G70 gear lube
GTI/GLI vented rotors
+size tires (65 instead of 60)
R134a conversion (been running that longer than it ever ran R12!)
Silverstar headlamp bulbs

...I specifically bought that car so I would NOT get any mod bugs.

Got the car 90% done last night. It runs great with the redone head and new injectors. Now I just have to sort out the suspension, replace the missing front wheel arch trims, and recharge the AC!

I drove the car home tonight.

I propose a race between our 3 cars. Would be interesting to show the difference between a stock NA and ECO car, and a screwdriver tuned ECO.

Got the coolant flushed out, some used struts installed to replace the one with a broken spring, and was able to push the dent on the door out nicely by hand.

Also tried to charge the AC, but there is a rust hole near the bottom of the condenser / dryer. No biggie, I have spares of those anyway and the one on the car is looking rather sad. At least the compressor works!

It was great to see this car at Marty's on Saturday. I think it was a find. Hope you get the A/C (and fans!) sorted.
