Several people have written or asked about the registration fee for the Fest, and whether they should pay full price. The bulk of the Fest activites are on Saturday. The registration includes the show n-shine, tech sessions, swap meet, pictures, horsepower competiton(dyno), vendors, biodiesel sales and presentations, the pig roast, etc. These are all on Saturday. If you plan on attending on Saturday, it is only fair you pay the full price. The bulk of the $60 registration fee goes directly to covering the associated costs (park rental, space rental, the pig roast, etc.) and a donation to TDIClub to help keep the website running (the real purpose of the Fest). We have had many requests for reduced fees, but we are asking all members to pay the full fee. This includes the organizers, volunteers, and even Fred himself (the TDIClub site owner). We feel this is the only fair way, and we feel the fee is reasonable. We view the small fee as a way for the TDIClub members to help support such a great website. If you plan on attending, please register and pay. Not paying would be unfair to all of the other TDIClub members who did. And please remember, the whole purpose of the Fest is to raise money to keep this website running! TDIClub is a great resource and if you have benefited from it, please consider the fee as your way of giving back to the Club.

We hope you can attend.

Folks, it is unfair to request a fee reduction and puts major undue stress on our organizers. They are not in this for any profit, and are putting in alot of time on this in addition to trying lead their normal lives (work, family, etc...) Be thankful that someone stepped up to the plate this year to bring us TDi Fest 2005!

I (briefly) thought that the fees were steep - but remember the reason for the Fest is to raise $$$ so that we can still have a cyberplace to meet, discuss and generally beat our brains out about our wonderful TDi's!

The Fest is once a year - do it for the good of the club!
(You'll have all year to reap the benefits...)

Thanks,
Julie (honorary 2004 TDiFest committee member)

I agree, at first glance the $60 does seem like a lot, but when you really think of the costs involved it becomes easy to understand. Remember, the planners get absolutely NOTHING for doing this event. We have put in tons of hours into this, and even we are paying the registration fee.

This is a rough guideline of what the $60 fee is supposed to cover.

1. 1 pig roast dinner
2. Name badges (needed to enter many events)
3. The ability to do the dyno event at the reduced price (we also have to put money down to get the Dyno to the Fest)
4. The ability to perform work at the Repair Garage at the Fest and to attend the How To Sessions
5. Space rental costs for the vendors, park (show-n-shine, driving course, etc.), Topels
6. Other related costs: rentals of port-a-poties, dumpsters, tents, tables and chairs.
7. Welcome packet with surprises!
8. Free Ice Cream certificate to Frostie Freeze
9. Other Misc costs (lanyards, maps and schedules, etc.) - believe us, this adds up quick!
10. And most importantly, a donation to TDIClub

In all reality, one registation, one tshirt, one pub lunch, and one banquet dinner is a total of $100. If I recall correctly, this is roughly the same price the 2004 Fest cost if all options were purchased. And we feel we have done the best job possible to maximize the value of that fee and make this an enjoyable Fest for all.
