Read some other recommendations online and was in a pinch with a failing alternator-- they squeezed me in next day, very no pressure, very clear about repairs and diagnostics, and pricing was reasonable on parts. They're Bosch authorized repair center so the alternator they put in had a 1 year warranty. They did the work in the right amount of time, and said they worked on TDI's often. The shop was filled with modded Audi's, Benzes, and VW's so I had a good feeling they were the specialists in town...

All hail Frank06...

Frank Irving in Lockwood Missouri should definitely be added to the list.

He has helped me out tremendously, is a fair businessman, and an all around good guy. His knowledge of engines is encyclopedic, and he does great work.

If you're needing a TDI mechanic in the midwest, look him up.

My vote for best mechanic is TDIjetta99

Jason has once again has proven his abilities and gets another THUMBS UP from me. He fixed My timing belt 2900 miles ago, when all of a sudden my TDI died on me last Sunday. I immediately called Jason only to find out he was on vacation. I left a message and he called me back within 15 min. I guess his mom who took the message called Jason and he called me right back. He was in NC. and called me back...wow how great is this. We talked and he said he would come to me when he came home. He came over today and came prepared. Brought another intake, and as he took mine apart I was horrified to see that it was completely clogged with carbon and that is why my car died. Swapped intakes, put the car on the vag-com, made a few adjustments and now my TDI runs like brand new again.

Thanks Jason................................I highly recomend him and trust him.
If you are around Port Jervis NY or can drive to there and need work, He's the man....................A class AAAA mechanic and good guy. Prices are fair and the work is quality, you can't go wrong. OH yeah............Thanks Steve R. (New Jersey)for turning me on to him. He gets all my work.:)

In Northwest Ohio, I strongly recommend Mark Harrington, Little German Village, U.S. Route 6, Ridgeville Corners, OH 1.419.267.5255. Mark has worked on 4 diesel vw's for me - from an Ecodiesel to the 04TDI Passat. Has also worked on at least 5 gassers for me. Honest, reliable and knowledgeable. Also sells used VW's.
I would second this. Mark is fantastic. Great service.

These guys just installed my new turbo. They do mostly general maintenance & repair, but are certainly capable of performance mods too!

York, if still at the VW dealer there in Point is a competent mechanic. He's the only one I'd trust. Or I'm in Madison.

Thanks for the input Jason. I'd like to avoid the dealer and find someone independent, but I will certainly keep it in mind. I usually do my own repairs, but on occasion I just don't have time, or run into a job that I can't do myself.

There are just too many to list....
I think maybe you can PM jwlionking the name of the listed shop and have him remove it from the opening page.

Although sounds like you brought your own parts??? That can be a recipe for disaster in some instances. I just had a pump on a B4 sent out to be rebuilt, after its owner brought in his own "new" pump, which once installed turned out to be quite used and was barfing fuel all over the place.

Guy sounds like a real wacko. I ran into a guy like that once, turns out he had a bad drug problem.
400 bucks for towing, ouch. 2 facts of life for a vw owner... have AAA extended coverage, and have a backup car. Cause you never know where it will crap out.

Not to bash anyone or anything, but i suggest the mods take some of these mechanics off the trusted mechanics thread.... Keith ... i paid another 200 dollars to have the car towed from tampa to st pete.
This is a disappointing post, because Keith was previously praised by many tdiclub members for this good work. For awhile he was the only TDI guru in central Florida, and folks were traveling a couple hundred miles to have him do their timing belts.

Anytime a customer has to tow his car away from a repair shop, that's a black mark on the repair shop. I don't see how Keith can justify this treatment of a customer.

Let's hear it from Keith. He has helped some people I refered to him and done a fine job. Not saying this didn't happen at all but it seems way out of character for him.

FWIW why didn't you rent a tow dolly for $60?

Need TDI mech in Southern Cal

I'm very close to Huntington Beach, Calif and having trouble finding
the right TDI shop.

Currently my 98 New Beetle is Dead......will not crank....probably those
early New Beetle electrical bugs biting me.....

I started to put in a new Relay 109......but turned into a pain.....I have no time to fix cars(I have six and five are now resting....)

Looking for a shop that can handle TDI performance mods, has a good
attitude about the Beetle and is fair priced.

I've tryed two obvious choices from the list here but they turned me off
so far....

Any personal recommendations for a shop in my area?

Why did the car have to be towed. And what repairs were being done at the time. Unless I missed something wht exactly was the problem with Keith?

Whatever the problem was, spusti se has apparently reached some kind of agreement with Keith, to their mutual satisfaction, so it is a closed issue. Even if it did not turn out satisfactorily, this would be the "one in a hundred" case which every good mechanic runs into sometime. Keith is still one of the best, and though there are others in this thread located in Florida, no one else has received nearly so much praise from satisfied customers.

I'll agree that you can't fix everything all the time. Frustrating as it may be. The big issue is your time and people don't want to pay for that if you didn't solve the issue. Unfortunately that's the way it goes sometimes.
