hood cable replacement (rear section)

Does anyone know the exact routing of the rear portion of the hood cable? I tried to pull the old one out with a wire attached to it with the intention of using the wire to pull the new one back through. My plan did not work out very well. It looks like I need to remove the fender as it seems to run beneath it.
Any information or helpful advice is appreciated.
