• The TDIClub classifieds section is a heavily trafficked section of the forum that encompasses want-to-buy (WTB) and for-sale (FS) threads for the entire world. Due to the demanding nature and fast pace of this section, it is imperative that you know and understand the rules. It is also important to remember that this is the only parts classifieds section.

Cross-posting and posting classifieds in the regional sections (except the dedicated thread in Ontario) is not permitted.

Multiple items should be sold in one thread. Make sure to provide a description for all items in your post along with pictures and prices. If you start multiple threads with individual items, they will be locked or combined at the discretion of the moderators.

Here is a quick outline of the classifieds section rules. If you don't follow these rules, you subject yourself to thread deletion, thread combination, infractions, or posting privilege revocation.

    Thread titles:
    • Put FS or WTB in your thread title. This will let other users know if you are selling or buying.
    • Briefly describe what you are selling. Thread titles have limited space. Be as descriptive, yet succinct, as possible.
    • Put your location in the title.
    • If space allows, put your price in the title

Title example (single item): "FS: 2004 Mk4/BEW cylinder head - Portland, OR - $500"
Title example (multiple items): "FS: MK6 fog lights, front bumper, headlights, grill - Detroit, MI"
Title example (car part-out): "FS: Mk3 Jetta parting out engine & interior - Dallas, TX"

    Thread text descriptions and pictures:
    • All for-sale threads must include pictures of the items that you are selling. One picture is sufficient, but multiple pictures with different angles will help buyers. A picture is worth a thousand words. If you don't know how to post pictures on TDIClub, see this thread: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=286691
    • All for-sale threads must include a description. We don't charge per-word, so be as descriptive as possible. The more information you can provide, the easier it will be for buyers.
    • All for-sale threads must include a price. Auctions and bidding are not allowed. If you want to auction something off, use eBay.
No picture, no price, NO SALE!

    Thread maintenance/updates/bumps:
    • When you sell something, update your thread with "SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title.
    • If you have multiple items for sale, update your thread as each item has been sold. When everything has been sold, updated the thread with "ALL ITEMS SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title when all items have been sold.
    • If you bump your thread, please delete old bumps by clicking on EDIT and then deleting the old bump. This will reduce clutter in your thread and make it easier to read. It also makes you look less desperate.
    • If you drop your price, please update your first post in addition to posting the new price. If you would like the thread title changed, click on the report post icon and let a moderator know what you would like the title changed to.

    Moderator intervention and infraction points:
Moderators will be monitoring the classifieds section. If a moderator determines that you have not been following the rules listed above, corrections will be made and infraction points will be assessed to your account.

What is an infraction point? Simple - it's a system of keeping track of user behavior. A moderator can assign a point value based on the severity of the infraction, as well as an expiration date on the points assessed. If you accumulate a certain number of points, the system will auto-ban you for a predefined amount of time. The more points you accumulate, the longer your ban period will be.

One example of points is as follows: multiple threads will be combined into a single thread, with the number of infraction points assessed corresponding to the number of threads merged. If we merge four threads into one, then you will be assessed four points that expire in 30 days. When you reach five points, the system will auto-ban you for one day.*

*This is an example based on the current infraction system structure. We reserve the right to modify the infraction system at any time without notice or updates to this announcement.

Thank you for your cooperation, and good luck with your sales and searches! :)

Lock_t,
I've been running my .658 for about 10k now, zero problems, direct fit
according to the tech I had install it. Be aware that with my oversize tires at 2000rpm in 5th I'm doing 67mph. Depending on your power mods and turbo setup and driving venue, you may be downshifting on the highway. Lots of high speed freeway? Perfect IMO, it's a real overdrive.

In retrospect, as I find myself doing more towing than expected, a
.717 might have been a better choice. The .658 is tall, I'm doing a
100mph at 3000rpm, and not many opportunities to get the motor into its real power band in 5th.
If I was in Texas, where I believe speed limits can be as high as 80mph, it'd be perfect.

Do some research on this site trying different combos of ratios, tire sizes, et al. You'll have to find the coding on your gearbox to plug in.

Ps. I went with the Masiero Ebay offering, half the price, and as I said above, perfect fit, great quality.

I have dlc520s pd150 manifold egr delete and RC stage 2 and sachs VR clutch coming in the foreseeable future and 215/45/17 tires. This is why I was thinking .66

Liten,

Do you want to be doing 65mph at 2000rpm, (.658), or
60mph at 2000rpm(.717)? Use the calculator and weigh
the options. Depends what kinds of roads you drive on,
and obviously, how fast. I haven't done it myself, but changing
5th is apparently not too bad a job with the tranny in the car.
I might do it just because I'm planning a big trip in the spring
with a teardrop camper.

With a load I'm revving out 4th to 3400rpm before shifting to keep the power on. And I'm really going a bit fast with a trailer.
So I'm in 4th a lot, particularly on the hills.
2600-3000rpm is a sweet spot IMO for the ALH, but not the best for
economy. Depends on your turbo too, the VNT 15 is spooling nicely
at 2000, my 17/22 starts kicking in a bit later.

Your Mileage WILL Vary

I go through .658's more than anything, and .622's are the next most popular. Probably 1:20 sets are .717. Even out west where we have real mountains a .658 is usually fine. Drive a DSG, it's sitting at 1500 RPM all the time. As long as you don't punch it you can putz around at 1500 without issues...

.658 is my gear of choice; .717 is too little of a drop and .622 makes it a bit of a big drop from 4th to 5th.

Many years ago, on my first TDI, a 2001 Golf, I was doing a lot of highway driving, and expected to increase my MPG’s with the .681. As it turned out, if it went up by one mpg, it was a lot, because I didn’t notice anything above that. What I did like was that at highway cruising speed, it was quieter. The downside IMO, was that when I wasn’t working, and driving local roads etc., I was continually downshifting, which to me became a PITA. On my next TDI, my Jetta, I left the gearing stock, because I was averaging lower 50’s in MPG’s. after the items that were done to the car, including the Nokian tires, it jumped to the mid sixties, which I had a very hard time believing, but turned out to be accurate, due mainly to the tires. Now, with the Bridgestones back on, and stock gearing, I’m getting upper 50’s to low 60’s. No reason to change anything

have had .658 on one of mine for years. rc stage 4, vnt1752 pushing 28psi, pp520, 11mm pump. side mount, pd150 intake and on and on...

.658 sucks. if you are ever in traffic that has you going to 60-65 mph you will br driving 4th. you end up using more fuel around town because you never make it to 5th. i dont recommend it to my customers unless they are on open road and in cruise at 80 for large parts of their drive.

So I took my own advice, lol, just ordered a .717 5th.
With my 17/22 and now a 24psi tune, albeit a bit underfueled
with my current nozzles, I'm looking for more power a bit
slower. Should be ~62mph at 2000rpm, a 5mph drop over the .658.
For high speed freeway passing, I'll have better response at 70-75.
It should be more comfortable cruising on secondary roads.
Theoretically now it'll "only" be a 139mph car at 4500rpm.
{)

I fully agree with you. A friend of mine, from Dallas, told me that unless you’re planning on cruising at 70+ mph for long periods of time, as he does, keep it stock, or don’t go higher than .681. He runs .658 in one car and stock in the other.

Note the three of us who aren't happy with the .658 are all running
hybrid turbos. Like me, I believe Intech has a 17/22. Before I upgraded mine, the VNT15 was a better option due to it's spooling lower down in the rpm range. No regrets BTW, the bigger turbo has a LOT more power, but the downside is it's moved the power band up in the rev range.

Switching to a .717 I'll pickup ~ 200rpm more on the shift 4th>5th at 70mph. Which, although it doesn't sound like much, will make all the difference to the turbo spooling/boost curve.

I'm running a .717 and VNT-15, couldn't agree more with this.

Going to see how the .717 works with the S7 turbo next year....

I realize this is a bit of a throwback but if anyone here happens to have their stock 5th (.756), I'm in desperate need. I purchased an ALH and 02J recently and discovered 5th needs replacing. No new ratio, nothing fancy, just stock is all I need.

Anyone?

I love my .658 5th, i got everything pretty much dialed in, i got passat R&P, 3.16 in my alh jetta, i upgraded 4th gear so it wouldn't have a big gap between 4th and 5th,, LSD, all gears cryod and WPC, and most of all my turbo a quick spooling no lag spools like vnt15, GTD1756vrk, plus a great tune, I did the math before putting my tranny together it is paying its dividend.
