I bought this car in '04. After service with the dealer it blew a timing belt and now needs a new engine. Our family needs a larger family vehicle so I'm looking to sell instead of put in a new engine myself.

How long did the dealer timing belt job last? And what did the dealer say after the timing belt let go?

I took the car in for an overhaul prior to a trip. They didn't replace the timing belt; thought it looked good. 300 miles later it blew. They deny responsibility and said the engine needs to be replaced.

I have lots of pics but not sure how to post here. Any help on that is appreciated. :)

Typical dealer fail. Anybody who has a clue with these cars knows that you never go by looks.

Too bad they think you need an entire engine too. A $800 head job and $300 TB kit should get this car back on the road.

If they did not pull the head I doubt you need a motor. Most vw dealers have gotten away from fixing heads and instead try to rob you for a new engine. Its very likely you just need some head work. I would find a tdi guru near you and pay them to pull the head.
