Random transmission question.....

so I was doing a little poking around and found out the gear ratios in my car(2015 Jetta TDi 6-speed manual) are odd. Well, at least 4th and 5th. 4th is 0.87:1, while Fifth is 0.86:1. What the hell is the point of that? It's like a 1 mph difference. May as well just made a 5 speed.

Anyway, any insight on this?

The trans has two final drive ratios. One for 1-4, the other for 5 & 6th. I believe the 1-4 final drive ratio is 3.238 and the 5-6 ratio is 2.615 for certain transmission codes and 3.450 & 2.760 for others.

Multiply the gear ratio by the correct final ratio to get the overall ratio for each gear.
