Hello Doc -

You mean the Electronic Control Modules?

Page 7 of the Touareg Electronic Diesel Control Sefs-Study Program (Course 89P303) shows the 2 Electronic Control Modules (J623 & J624) at the top rear of the engine compartment on the passenger side near the firewall. One is horizontal, the other is verticle.

In english, pop your hood, step to the passenger side of the vehicle and look through the side of the plastic cover where the bottom of the raised hood meets the body. There is a black plastic cover that covers the ECM's and some other stuff (wipers, etc.) - it's further back than the left engine cover. You should be able to see the horizontal ECM (J623) in the gaps between the passenger-side hood hinge, the black plastic cover and the body - it's silver.

Please do...

You should definitely have your truck on the dyno before they chip it so that you have a baseline to compare to.
Good thought.

Now, wasn't there just be a post on how to do dyno runs on the V10....

If the ECM/ECU is held in anywhere near as well as in my Golf MK5, prepare yourself for a lot of puffing, panting and hard work. They're held in with special security bolts with heads that sheer off when they're installed by VW. It takes a trained expert about 15 minutes to remove the ECU.

This is one of a number of discrete anti-theft measures, intended to make the car more difficult to steal. Apparently on previous models of cars, the ECU could be replaced with a modified "unlocked" ECU that would allow a car thief to drive your car away.

When the ECU is reinstalled, make sure that the company doing the remap has a new set of the correct security bolts, as they won't be able to use the old set.

Finally got the V10 on the dyno...had trouble keeping the tranny in 3rd gear, it kept wanting to down-shift.

HP:268 @ 3250 RPM
TQ: 495 @ 2750 RPM

0-64 in 5.9 sec
1/4 Mile in 14 sec @ 98 MPH

1/4 mile was from idle, just short of kick-down.

did you remap the ecu? and/or get a new chip?
No. Original ECU's.

I've been thinking about tuning, but I can't seem to find many tuning options for the V10 here in the USA. I'm not interested in being a guinea pig...

We did a V10 dyno test last year when we were developing a new ECU for the Touareg. And how much torque? 1002 Nm!
But that was an extreme tuning system prototype and it´s not sold in such extreme versions to the customers...
Well... only if they really ask for it...

What do you have available for the V10 TDI here in the US?
