‘01 Forester making WHOMP-WHOMP noise in rear after new brakes

I would start by checking sway bar bushings and end links. They make a lot of noise inside the car even with a little play.

I think I tried yanking on these, but can't quite remember.
I do remember sending a picture of the rear sway bar to my friend because it's so tiny I almost mistook it for brake lines.

But I did actually confirm the wheel bearing. I removed caliper, bolted wheel back on, and detected radial and axial play, complete with *clunk clunk* noises

Subarus also make a sound like this when the wheels are tightened down too much/ not the correct torque spec.
