Ferrography -- def. an analytical method of assessing machine health by quantifying and examining ferrous wear particles suspended in the lubricant or hydraulic fluid.
No kidding this is like having an MRI done on your engine. This allows you to look inside at the wear metals and identify them and how they got there. I got my sample kit and I will be posting the results shortly.
If you have been running a 5w30 or 0w30 take one of these tests.
