Our Golf 4 has started to rattle. It will make rattling sounds stationaire and shake the car. In corners the rattling intensifies. It will slow the car down by a bit. I can feel the resistance when I drive. In a straight line I can feel shaking through the steering wheel. On acceleration it feels like a gear isn't properly meshed and slipping. This makes a loud noise too, sounds like an exhaust leak.
I am suspecting the driveshafts of causing this, but unsure why it would rattle when the car is parked sometimes. Could it be the gearbox too? I've taken off wheels but havent found anything rubbing. The dust covers on the shafts are fine.
