Ya, this only fits the MK3 and B4, which really dont have any other parts available for them. The later models do have parts available already.

Thanks for the reply. I noticed in this thread that you mentioned you might be working on prototypes for the MK4, or at least that’s how I interpreted it. The kits on dieselgeeks.com are close to $200 and Im not about to spend that much loot on a short-shift kit. :(

Finally got a spare minute, so installed mine today. Easy 10 min job.
It works GREAT, elegantly simple.
I found the shift a little stiff at first, so I removed the allen head bolt again and lightly greased around the shaft, washer and head, that made a big difference.
Feels great now, thanks !!
Just checking back in. 6 months, 8000 miles and a lot of 'quick' shifts later, still working great. Thanks !!

... Gruven parts makes a stainless steel piece that replaces that plasctic relay lever and reduces the throw, but Ive tried it and I personally think it takes too much leverage away from the side to side motion of the shifter and makes it difficult to find the gear.
I don't have that particular complaint with the Gruvenparts transfer lever. For me, having it seize up in the shift tower's bore was no fun and I still haven't solved the problem that it relocates its shift cable so low that the two cable boots rub when I push into 5th. Even if I do solve this it's too late for the boots. They wore holes in each other before I got one wrapped in Teflon tape and greased with silicone grease.

Good to get some longer term feedback, that's more miles than I've put on mine.

Hah, it took not only a 2 lb. sledge hammer, but a vice aiding that force at the same time.

Roger that, are you aware that this is for an MK3 or B4? I noticed the beetle in your sig, wont work on that one.

Money sent! I'm excited to see how much it changes the feel. It's a bummer the side/side part from Gruven doesn't work all that well; I'd love to use the two in conjunction.

k_harley, can you confirm this is designed to replace all hardware on the shift cable that has the goofy vertical mounting bolt? My setup is wiped out and I'd hate to put it back to stock when the guy 60 miles down the road is selling the perfected version.

Yes, Im pretty sure from what I understand you are asking....

This replaces the
-Shift weight
-13mm head bolt that holds down shift weight
-13mm head bolt that secures fore-aft shift cable

As long as your shift tower is intact, this should be a go

I only have 3 left from my original production run.

In reference to this schematic..

I'd like to make sure that 36, 45, 46, 47 and 52 are no longer needed.

Got mine Saturday!

Installed! Loving it! My son uses this car (A3 Jetta) the most, and even he recognized the difference. Great little upgrade!

OK, well I blew through the batch I just made with the material I had left on hand. I need to go re-stock and make more.

No, this does not replace much of the linkage. It just takes the place of the securing hardware for the fore-aft cable.

Yes, gruvenparts does make that stainless piece for the side to side portion, its a nicely crafted piece, but in my opinion, it takes away too much of the leverage needed for that shifter action.

There are a couple of other pieces that are wear items that are a good idea to replace if the ole shifter is starting to feel a little sloppy.

I could use a B4 short shifter, are they still available?

I think I have one left on the shelf. I probably wont be making another batch for a few weeks because I have to go fetch some more material for the next round.

Let me know if you want it.
