Engine/transmission are Mazda-based and there are some other somewhat bigger Mazda engines in the same design family that will fit (which this guy is doing).
The suspension layout carried over into the Ford Aspire (to what?) and there are apparently some other Kia models that share a few parts.
I wouldn't put a TDI in one ... but I'd drive it.
