Is it advisable to go with a single mass flywheel on a TDI?

If you keep it stock tuned, some people like them, they're "smoother".
They do dampen out some of the diesel vibrations, inherent in the high
compression engine. I can't stand them, lol, too "rubbery".

Depends. The DMF has been improved and the LuK RepSet available on IDParts is an absolute sore dick deal (you can't beat it). I have one in my stage 1 Golf and it is light, easy to engage, quiet and holds well.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll wait and see what's actually wrong when I pull the trans. If it's a dmf and if it's still good, I'll just keep it. If it's 'busted', I have a spare stock smf from a 2.0 that I'll probably throw in(if the bolt pattern is the same). I'm likely not going to mod this one...just too many miles for me to do that. I'll drive this one stock and learn the ways of diesel then maybe find another with fewer miles to 'test on' later.
