Head is 068 103 373 N 1996 1Z

I want to swap 8mm valves into a head rebuild.

Is it just a matter of using different size guides?

You will want to spend some time in the parts catalog verifying that those are the changes. I briefly looked and it would appear so but the problem is that when parts are discontinued the numbers get pulled so the catalog ends up being incomplete. There might be some difference that we can't know about because the part that makes it different is NLA.

Question I have though is why you want to go from the newer 7mm valves to the older 8mm valves to begin with? The 1mm larger size is hardly justification for wholesale replacement.

i have 7 valve set in 8mm size, just missing one 8mm exhaust valve. they are hydraulic lifters, 95mm x 31mm x 8mm.
NLA is starting to limit our options...
Anyone here want to sell me one valve, used in MK2 jetta, rabbit, passat diesel 1.6
Thx

There are just too many to list....
The 1Z TDI does not use the same valves as any of the ME, MF, or 1V IDI 1.6L diesels.

Early 1Z intake valve:

028-109-601-H

Late 1Z intake valve:

028-109-601-H

1Z exhaust valve:

028-109-611-G

ME/MF/1V intake valve:

068-109-601-N

ME exhaust valve:

068-109-611-L

MF/1V exhaust valve:

069-109-611

valves are about $25 each, buy the right set for what your doing.
the 7 valve set you have, you give measure of: 95mm x 31mm x 8mm sound suspiciously of mk2 hydro valves, and possibly lifters. wont work for long in a 1z or AHU, not for long that is---
