Long story short, I have 2 tdi's. both 01 Alh. the TDI I plan on selling had the good turbo. got one oil feed line off no problem, the other one I ended up twisting.
those lines are $80 and also a pain to take out, I was thinking about putting on steel braided lines. not only are they only $20-$30, but won't have to worry about twisting it when replacing the turbo. the new owner will have to get a new turbo eventually.

anyway, is it possible? see a lot on eBay but not specific to alh.

Rule of thumb:

1. Replace with OE parts
2. If OE parts are prohibitively expensive then replace with OEM equivalent parts
3. Aftermarket parts = POJ
well.... that sucks, was hoping to not spend too much money

Steel braided oil lines are available from one or more reputable TDI CLUB vendors.

summitracing has decent ones (3', near perfect length) that come out to be $40 shipped including the an-metric fittings. i have used a few of these with no issues at all

When you install cheap aftermarket parts you should be thinking about:
A. the labor to replace them when they fail. Are they still a bargain after you replace them once, twice, thrice?

B. How rapidly will the engine be destroyed in the event of a failure. In this case the answer is "very". So is a new engine worth the cheap hose?

here's an example. then you need the an-metric fittings (iirc -4an to m10x1 for the turbo and m14x1.5 at the filter housing, but double-check)

Tats a load of crap. The braided lines are fine and are not subject to the fragile nature the hard lines are.

oldpoopie,

Right on. Why in the heck would you use a preformed steel line when a braided steel flexible line is available. TDIPower, what are you talking about?

That blanket statement can not be applied to everything. I have found plenty of parts that are total junk from the manufacture. Thus having to source revised aftermarket items of better quality...

I guess I can come out now and say that I also put other-than-VW-approved gear oil in my manual transmission and ran it for about 60,000 miles w/ no issues whatsoever.
