just a shout to anyone with a Q7 in need of tires - I just went on Tire Rack and they have Michelin Primacy MXM4 tires on sale for $174.29 each, $697.16 for four - just ordered a set, not sure how long they're on sale for.

If you have a Q7 and didn’t get new tires last year, then yes, you are in need of new tires, lol.

Make sure the load range is adequate.
They're one of Tire Rack's four designated "top sellers" for the Q7. I forget the exact markdown, but when I looked at the top sellers when negotiating for the beast, since she needed new tires, my recall is they were more like $1,100 or more for a set.

What size? That seems like a good price for Michelins whether they are 18", 19" or 20's.

I got 18" OEM alloys with winter tires for the Treg in the fall. I have 20" wheels that need rubber for this summer. Or I need to buy another set of 18" wheels and tires for this summer. Or just get the 18" tires and have them swapped onto the 18" rims. Decisions decisions.

I was leaning towards 18" tires one way or the other because they are quite a bit cheaper, ride better on our crappy roads (plus less suseptible to the known Treg steering wheel shake) and I think they are worth at least a 3 mpg improvement which is about 10% in the Treg.

Those tires don't come up for me for a Touareg in the 18" or 20" OEM specs. They offer a Primacy Tour A/S in the 18" or a Premier LTX in the 20".

Doh! It looks like they have them in the OEM 19" size. 265/50R19 110H XL It also looks like an even better deal with a $70 mail in rebate available to bring it to $630. That is is about what I paid for 20" Sumimoto's last time (note to people reading this - do not put Sumimotos on your Q7 or Treg).

I’m digging all this talk about tires, but where is a good option to source a second set of wheels for winter tires?

The usual places. Craigslist and Ebay. I found a set of brand new OEM wheels on Ebay last year for stupid cheap - $400 shipped for 4 wheels. Better than any used, scratched up curbed 18" wheels I could find on CL. I kind of wish I had bought 2 sets.

I second Ebay. Like a moron, while texting and driving, I curb rashed the right front wheel on our new used Q7 but found a refurbished OEM on Ebay. Looks like you can get new rims that will fit your ride starting around $100 each. They may not match your three season rims, but they'll match each other.

Yah I noticed if I delayed shipping for a day I'd get a $70 debit mastercard with the deal. Totally lucked into this deal; when I had initially priced them on Tire Rack, Vredesteins were the cheapest (also 4.5 star customer - rated) but the Michelins plus the gift card beat the price on the Vredesteins by about $170. I'm almost thinking the way the Q7 is legendary for eating tires, I should've bought two sets.

Is the Q7 originally equipped with run-flats?

Looked them up for our 2014 Touareg and they're available in 19". However, they are run-flat. Don't know the (negative) implications other than reading on the web - stiffer ride, slightly reduced treadlife, more restrictions on repairability so possibly more likely to have to replace.

Interestingly the tire description states:

"NOTE: Run-flat tires are only recommended for vehicles that are originally equipped with self-supporting run-flat tires and equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system."

The T3 is not originally equipped that way, yet the tires come up in the search process, maybe just as a size match?

IDK if the Q7 initially came with run-flats; however, Tire Rack lists these as one of their four top sellers for the Q7.
